YOWEC Celebrates #WorldWaterDay with the students of Victory Baptist School in Port Harcourt.

Youth and Women Empowerment Centre (YOWEC) joined the Students of Junior Secondary School Three (JSS 3) of Victory Baptist School situated at Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt to celebrate #WorldWaterDay2019 with the theme: #LeavingNoOneBehind.

The team arrive the venue in the waiting alms of the School Principal, Mrs. Afolabi who have already settled the students at their auditorium.

First to address the students, was the Project Manager of YOWEC, Mr. Sunday Sowari Okojaja who introduced the team and their mission and how it was important to celebrate and educate them on the importance of managing their water.

The stage was now set for the resource person of the day, Mr Clinton Festus-Amadi, an MS.c student at the University of Port Harcourt in Environmental Engineering with Water being his major course work..

He threw the attention of the students to the theme of the day and why the world must celebrate WaterDay. With his prepared handouts that were distributed to the students for their easy assimilation. Sources, Importance and Treatment of water were concisely outlines with graphic representation as the students listen with rapt attention.

The class was also interactive as students shared their stories on how they have been managing their water at home and school. Surface and drainage waters impact were extensively dealt with including the consequences of the neglecting them which have led to serious pathogenic outbreaks of ailments, sickness and in some cases disasters that will claim quantum of lives.

The session was called to close as Mr. Sowari thanked the management of the school for giving them the opportunity to engage with the students. In his closing speech, he said “I want to thank the management of the school for giving us this opportunity to celebrate with you and the interactions were superb. The students on their parts wowed me with the communications and high level of questions they ask, I’ll say, I am really impressed with what I have seen here and this should be the beginning of more partnership with your school”. On her part the Principal thanked YOWEC for finding their school worthy among several other ones within the vicinity.

One of the students, who spoke on camera, spoke summarily about the event and how it has enlightened them more (See Video below).
